Electric fuel pump

Thanks

Here is a sketch for wiring of an electric fuel pump with oil pressure cut-out. This should give you an idea what to do. If you do use a Facet "bang bang" pump, make sure you rubber mount it so the noise doesn't drive you round the bend!

Just wanted to thank you for posting this. This is a project I'll be tackling in the spring and knowing very little about electronics/wiring was worried about how to wire it. This is very helpful, thanks!

Thanks to you too

Thank you Jim, Shaun, Eric and others on Xweb - in this little thread you have somewhat restored my faith in the humanity and decency of X1/9 owners.

I have decided that with the New Year I am getting out of X1/9s in order to pursue other interests that give me enjoyment rather than insult, disrespect and misery. It's nice to know that there is and always will be a happy X community to be found here, thanks to Mac and to those who have continued his philosophy.

Cheers everyone!

Rachael

You can't do that Rachael

You're hooked and you know it.
Anyone who has acquired the knowledge and experience to the level you've attained can't just walk away without coming back for "a fix" now and then...
So don't make any unrealistic New Year's resolutions! :)

Hi Rachael, i do not know what has gone before but the way you have responded to my problem has been fantastic.

Your knowledge and experience along with others on this forum has helped me get my car to the stage it is now,i am a car body repairer so that side of the car was no problem, but without you and this forum it would not be anywhere near finished.

We all love these cars and you do as well so try and reconsider

All the best Shaun :worship:

Shaun, some time ago I had the temerity to call somebody out for their behaviour towards the UK OC. Since that fateful time the X1/9 thing in the UK at least has been soured for me. I'm not a great socialiser but I have always enjoyed helping other enthusiasts. Recently I have been increasingly attacked and excluded so now that enjoyment is largely denied me.

Anyway, I didn't mean to come here crying about it, so I'll shut up now.

I will still look in here and if I can make a contribution I will try my best!

Cheers R

Hey Rachael.......!

.... I'm not a great socialiser but I have always enjoyed helping other enthusiasts.......

.....sounds like you, me, and ol' Pottsy had better make a date in March over your way sometime to sit around and talk X1/9's, while we down a few of your WARM Pommy beers! :drink:

cheers, Ian - NZ

Haha, yes sounds good. I will be sans X1/9s by then I think.

Dave, a heads up: Looks like I've sold the black X to a chap in Scotland and he hopes to drive it to a "booked MOT" at his local place. Can you figure out what bodily fluid is leaking and how severe it is?

Thanks!

Bob, the above is an excellent example of why I have lost all interest in the UK X1/9 social scene. Charles Whyte (using his wife's membership "dallaraturbo" on here) has persistently trolled and sexually harassed me since I complained about his behaviour over a year ago. Yet he is allowed to carry on by a corrupt and cowardly "lads" junta now running the OC.

Yep, that's why I hate Facebook...

...and hate is a pretty strong word.
Nearly everyone I know that uses Facebook has been hurt in one way or another.
"Unfriending", posting hurtful stuff, inappropriate photos, etc. etc. all TOTALLY unregulated and displays the WORST in people.
Folks have a really hard time with Facebook, and it's really easy to see why. There can be a lot of bad eggs in that nest.

Personally speaking, I have no part in it. (Facebook)

I do understand your feelings with what you reference, I really do, but don't let it spoil your experience here on X-Web,
or with X1/9's in general because you are appreciated here.

A Facet cube pump came on my X from the previous owner when I bought the car six (seven?) years ago. It has never failed. I have a "Mr. Gasket" electric pump on my 850 Spider, and while the first one of those started leaking from a fitting after two years and was replaced, these pumps have never failed to operate either in more than five years.

Bob,

Thank you :)

That was just the most recent example, which happened to be fb. He follows me all over the web.

Do the fb admins know they have just let this charming man into their group, along with his supporters?

Those sicko's.........!

......Do the fb admins know they have just let this charming man into their group, along with his supporters?.....

.....have popped their ugly heads up internationally!
Fb seems to have become the modern-day "Mein Kampf" for this mob! :guns:

cheers, Ian - NZ

I'm not a big fan of FB either. I like the concept and people can keep up with each other and all that but TMI!!!!!!!!! I know at least one guy who is so full of himself it's funny. All day long telling everyone his business. Makes me laugh and also reminds me to NOT BE LIKE THAT. I have an account but I never use it.

Who gives a rat's ass about Facebook.....Back on topic:

Shaun, no regulator is needed with electric fuel pumps if you select a model with the correct output pressure; for carbureted cars such as my X a 3.5 psi pump works great. It's a good idea to have the type of carb with a return line to the fuel tank (such as the later version of the Weber 30DICA on my 850 Spider), but that's more to keep the excess fuel circulating to reduce the chance of heat soak/vapor lock; in theory the needle valve on your carb float should prevent pump pressure (electric or mechanical) from flooding the carb. I think.

Thanks DSpieg

I am learning so much about pumps, psi and regulators it is great

Thanks Shaun

That might sound a bit sad actually

Body repairs maybe, i have learnt to do a lot of mods on here mostly electrical but it is very interesting learning new skills even at my age:geek:

Now i am really confused

I still going to put a electric pump on but i managed to crank fuel to the carb but the car will not start.I took the belt off and have the camshaft at tdc,now the crank and flywheel are at tdc as well.To do this i had to turn the crank one turn to get the flywheel mark to show i have read that you can get the flywheel 180 degrees out so will that mess with anything else.My cap is marked 1 2 3 4 which i have put the leads to 1 2 3 4 on the engine 1 being nearest the cambelt.

I have marked #1 HT lead on the side of the distributor and then set the body of the distributor so the arm is pointing approximately at #1 while the engine is TDC

Small detail...

Fiat engines are timed to #4 TDC unlike most other engines. What this means is that you want to line up all the TDC marks, this will be #4 TDC. Then set your distributor so the rotor is pointing at the #4 terminal. This is why people say they get the flywheel or other timing component 180º out, because they mistakenly time to #1 TDC.

Should fire right up, then use timing light to set dynamic timing... using either #1 or #4, doesn't matter since the the crank rotates 2x the speed of the cam. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks budgetzagato

Does that mean when it is set at TDC if i remove number #4 plug the camshaft will be at the top

I do not know where to move the distributor before i point the rotor towards #4 on the cap as the distributor will move and i have taken it out and turned it
