New owner of 4-speed: reverse gear question

Hi,

My X 1/9 just arrived. I am eager to drive it (but first I need to go get some gas for it...)

I sat in it and was messing around with finding the gears. I couldn't find reverse. Is there a special trick to it? I know I've read it can be tricky with these cars, but have never read anyone elaborate.

With the engine off, how do I distinguish between reverse and 4th? It feels like there is only 1 right-down position on the gear box, but I know that isn't true.

(An admittedly silly question. Thanks for bearing with me.)

There is a push down detent. From neutral, push down and move the stick across and back = reverse

Ah, yes yes. I didn’t think they did that with cars this old. Thank you so much.

(Now to get some gas in it so I can get it into the garage before Texas hail blows through…eep!)

No. I am in the "I can't get it to start yet and I am 99% sure it's user error" part of my X 1/9 journey.

Can be a lot harder to find any gear with the engine off.
