I swear I didn't use anymore force than normal when screwing in the oil pan drain. It doesn't feel right tightening up. And I don't want to push it any farther. Anyone ever see a case of the threads on the pan strip out?

way uh ow

is the pan metal with a tapered plug, or aluminum with the flanged plug and gasket??
if the latter you can buy a "metal" insert kinda like a heli-coil but steel. it has a serrated top, and comes with the proper tap and red locktite, and will last a lot longer the aluminum coil. that would be probably 1 or 2 oil changes. I use them in all my spark plug holes and I never worry about cross threading, or the plug not being thght.
most auto stores carry these, just make sure you get the one that matches the drainplug.
there is also a place around here called fastenalls that has nothing but hardware. like home depot on steroids.

Could be old age but more than likely cross threading and or a big arm.

Old age, yes. Big arm, no....I really need a lift to get under it well enough to produce any real force. It's becoming a challenge getting under there with limited jacking capability.

It's an aluminum pan. Inspected the thread closely, they don't look stripped (as well as I could see in there). Ended up using a FelPro(?) product to coat the threads. Without the metallic gasket, the plug seems to bite better. Maybe the last row is allowing it to bite and tighten. No leaks, so it'll work for now.

Perfect

Earlier, when I was thinking of some kind of a repair, I did notice the threads go straight in, without butting into any type of shoulder or roadblock. A longer threaded plug would be perfect. Thanks.

Hey Cesare... there are tons of options out there...

from rubber expandable (like Thermos stoppers) and self threaders, to "O" rings and drain-cocks.

Here... take your pick, and watch your own strength! HA!

I especially like this one:

Success

No worries Tony, it's happy now. Tight and no leaks. But I'll be ordering the slightly longer Porsche plug just in case....
