Resonator Tips

True Classic
Hey guys , just want to get an opinion on installing resonator tips on my exhaust - I have Matts performance head and Marks header with a magnaflow transverse muffler - with quad tips - Marks original muffler was very loud and droney , I swapped that for the Magnaflow - its better but still has a drone at certain RPM - I am not running a CAT .
I'm looking to tone done the drone but still keep it aggressive when you get the revs up .

I stopped at a local custom muffler shop and the owner suggested resonator tips
anybody have any experience or suggestions ?

thanks as always

side branch resonator?

You could try a different approach: an adjustable side branch resonator.

Here are some links:

If you can calculate it, you're best off (need to know the RPM for drone and some other bits). Since the hard part is tuning it, I've heard some talk of making an adjustable one - like a trombone.

Here's a fairly long thread about someone doing the same: http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-...-drone-resonator-fix-design-construction.html

Good luck!

I use them on my custom exhausts

They do not really quiet things down but make it sound more raspy. Summit and Jegs have lots and you can find whatever size/style you like. The Ansa stuff had the slash cut style and that is what I use since it was used often on the systems sold long ago. I did not notice any reduced noise and I think you probably would need to go with another muffler for reducing noise. Papa Tony suggested finding a local shop that will work with you and swap out if needed. Putting a Borla turbo muffler on soon with resonator tip which my be too loud but I think will be better than the glass pack systems I have done in the past. Good luck

CC Inserts

A few of have used these with good results.

I have the same exhaust and header set up as you minus the quad tips, but also with a muffler that is supposedly quieter then Mark's (muffler was already swapped when I acquired the car, so I can't personally verify). I can however verify the inserts quiet things considerably. Still louder than stock :)

I'm up in Rockland County, by the TZ bridge in Nyack. Unfortunately that is a horrible drive. My daughter did her undergrad at SU so we used to make regular trips out there quite some years ago.

I would still consider it if the car were complete, so perhaps next year :)

I have Ansa resonator tips on my car, stock muffler. It sounds good, but I put them on for the look (even though they branch out to a "pair" outside of the bodywork.

I'd love to find these vintage style Ansa tips again - I wish Ansa would make them again! (hoping someone will chime in and say "yeah! they do!". I found some NOS ones, but for huge money. I paid $45 for mine many years ago :)
