I was surprised at the detail in this article, but bummed there were no details on why the '31' was ultimately picked over the X19.
But for rally stages you'd be surprised how often you have the feeling like the car is balanced on tip-toes.
I understand the 131 was ultimately chosen because it was a new sedan in Fiats line-up and they wanted to promote it in competition to garner sales numbers. The X1/9 was always going to be a relatively low production run and they were selling well already.
