So I see my cousin today ,and in conversation he mentions he has a Yugo with a bad bottom end sitting in his yard. H e thought I was joking when I told him I wanted it. NOW TO THE POINT... I know I want the ignition, head, exaust manifold. BUT... what else do I ACQUIRE? What fits my 74 X, my 78 X 1300's. What do you all want /need before this car gets scrapped?

Yugo-->1300X parts swap

So I see my cousin today, and in conversation he mentions he has a Yugo with a bad bottom end sitting in his yard. He thought I was joking when I told him I wanted it. NOW TO THE POINT... Other Yugo parts useful as spares for a 1300 X1/9 would be:

  • Cam & cam housing assembly
  • Valve shims & shim buckets
  • Oil pressure/coolant temp sensors
  • Timing belt cover & bracket
  • Timing belt tensioner assembly
  • Timing belt pulleys (crank/aux shaft/camshaft)
  • Water pump & extension pipe/elbow hose
  • Thermo housing bottom (lid)
  • Starter motor
  • Fuel pump
  • 4-speed transmission (mainly for internal bits like the tall 3.76 final drive gearset & misc gears/synchros/etc. if you ever plan on rebuilding the X's 4-speed trans)
  • Trans-to-block bolts/washers
  • Trans-to-gearshift rod "lollipop" linkage
  • Front axles/CVJ's/uprights/hubs (used on rear of X)
  • Front disc brakes
  • Steering rack

I would do the following.

I would swap in a good 1500, shave the head and put in a mild cam.

Then I would find some rear X springs for the front, and shim the rear to give it the right look.

Source some steel 15" wheels from a 500 and put on some 195/45/15 sticky tires.

Then, you go out and scare the heck out of the Honda crowd with it.

Just my ideas....
