Final Drive Question....

Not sure....

Not sure how it all works but the stock is 4.08, I think and it "drops" to 3.76. Which to me sounds lower, but maybe its higher. I'm not being a smartass here, I know that gearing works a little differently than normal numbers, so maybe it is higher. Either way, I have the answer that the tranny needs to come out to change the gears, so maybe I'll do that next year. The engine job is big enough for now. Thanks...

And...

...you have to completely dismantle it too!

I did this on my X as well.
I would not really do that again. You are also making all the other gears longer, which makes that car feel less lively.
I will be changing over to a 5-speed, which I think will work better for me.

Also a big job, and you lose the precise shifter feel of the 4-speed.

I love mine

I installed one of these final drives last year when I was rebuilding 3rd gear and love it.

The shift points remain the same as standard, it just feels like a 5 speed with no first. Great for cruising and no issues getting away in first. I don't spare my engine (always cobwebs needing blowing out, you understand) and I get 300miles/per tank.

Cheers,

Rob
