X1/9 Learner's Permit...
I've replaced most of my incandescent lights with LEDs. For the "dome" (er, targa) light, I found a festoon bulb with 6 small LEDs on it. This provided about the same amount of light as the OEM bulb -- maybe a little less:

However, I recently replaced it with one of these. 18 5050 LEDs and some double-stick tape for mounting it. It fits perfectly in the center of the fixture behind the lens and puts out A LOT of light. Wifey thinks it's too bright, but I really prefer it. You'll have no trouble seeing anything inside the X at night when you open the door or manually turn-on this light. My 81x didn't have door-card lights so the overhead light is the only source -- with this one is completely adequate:
