What did you do to your X1/9 today ?

removed the windshield today...

... and damned if that bit about applying 24 volts to the wire embedded in the windshield adhesive didn't do the trick :worship:

At some point in the past a previous owner had removed the windshield trim to do some rust repair and glued it back on again, so there was a hiuge amount of adhesive that I had to scrape out with a HarborFreight cheapie windshield removal too.... But eventually I found the embedded wire... it was broken halfway around so I had to jump the two broken ends together... two 12V batteries in series to produce 24V, and after 20 minutes the windshield just fell out.

Past couple days...

Most of my exhaust parts are now here... They fit together on the bench just great and the Borla muffler fits the space above the header... Like a glove! Plan to have the tailpipe bent at the shop once I find the right one. It is the offset piece so it is not too tough a pair of 45s and a 90 out to the tip... If they can't do it I will order more parts and just piecemeal it.
My axles are off and I am cleaning and repacking the CV joints and replacing the boots. Just put two calipers back together... Wish it would have been the two fronts... One rear and one front. Cleaned up great and I think I invented two or three new words reassembling the rear caliper... If the weekend goes well I should be able to do a short test drive as early as next week. I also modified the stock grill for a bumper delete. I am making the center spoiler section and front and rear covers to dress everything up... I have a fairly good idea of how I want to do it but as with all styling projects the mock up may bring changes to the initial design...

I actually did this a couple of days ago

I finally modified my headlights. I don't know how similar it is to the Bob Brown design but it definitely made an improvement.

Loaded it into the toy hauler. I think I tasted Fuit of the looms trying to get up and in. Hory clap!

Did the 'ol stethoscope to my pullies...

...trying to track down a bearing noise on the '78. It's the tensioner. Grr I just replaced the timing belt too. Guess the old bearing didn't like being re-tensioned.

Ordered one from Vicks with a couple oil dipstick grommets for both X's.

Inserted Relays

Didn't do it all today. But finished the wiper ones today. Forgot to take assembly pics of the others. But there are plenty out there for the insertable headlight ones. The Fan ones are basically the same design as the headlight ones, using the original circuit to trigger the new feed.

Lights much brighter.

Wipers at least twice as fast.

New Fans less of a draw.

Nice work!

Sorry to ask, why didn't you go with the sealed Tyco box in the headlight area where it actually does get wet? Just size?

different method

The wires are almost molded into the monolithic rubber in the bottom. Wish I had taken a pic of the bottom of one before mounting. The little Fuze enclosure uses individual seals. Delphi connections I think.

Restored CD91's

Finally had the time over the weekend to get it done.

Before restoration:

During restoration:

After restoration:

And finally, on the X with new-to-me center caps:

I used Plasti Dip rubberized paint with a "glossifier" top coat. They're not perfect, but I'm pleased with my work.

Added the Vicks Texas alloy radiator, two 10" fans, relays, new master cylinders and fixed the no horn, no signal cancellation problem..

I just got back from a 30 minute drive in 90 degree heat and traffic... No problems at all...

Today I installed the Dash, The seats/interior, windshield and trim, Installed rear bumper and installed all of the rubber bumper trims front and rear. I also installed all of the turn signal side indicators. Dropped car off at detail shop where the car is being wet color sanded and buffed.
