roll bar

if you have access to the PBS how to build a race x, they have a lot of pictures and dimensions and lengths in the rear of the book. altho most of the work involves no windshield it could be a good starting point depending how far you want to go.

i don't mind removing the windshield just to install the roll cage

but for sure i'm not planning on cutting it !

If you plan to compete, best check with the organizing...

body to define what their requirements are as well.

Matt Brannan at Midwest Bayless races SCCA and could help with a cage and Chris Obert at FiatPlus does a lot of Autocross racing (SCCA also) but I'm sure the rules are quite different.

Drag Racing? NHRA. Just for show? Lots of thin-wall possibilities.

Your turn.... what do you wanna do?

just had a dude from a race shop here ill send the car next week

10 point cage and few more things

ill post some pic ones its in the works !

thanks for the help

My buddy bought an OMP cage.
It is shown in the car in this page:
http://www.scuderiax19.de/Treffen2012/Vorstart.htm

He modified it extensively, move the rear hoop under the targa bar, move front hoop forward, add side bars etc. This is shown here:
http://www.scuderiax19.de/Treffen2013/Vorstart.htm

You have to scroll down the pages to see all the pics.
The cross braces are for mounting the seat belt.

He added more bracing to keep the cage legal with german regs:

Before deciding on ANY roll cage for the exxe, very specifically what is the intent of installation?

The often quoted and looked upon roll cage for the exxe appears to be the ancient and long past use by date of the PBS. That roll cage does not meet numerous current race sanction requirements.

If this is intended to be a street or solo II car, don't bother as the stock roll over protection as designed is plenty strong, plenty good, even if the exxe is used for track days.

The bolt-double shear jointed tubes are almost always never acceptable for the majority of race sanction organizations. They will collapse upon impact causing the cage to fail.

How much clearance between the top of driver's helmet to the bottom of the roof tubes? There should be no less than 2" or 50mm air space. Any less can and will cause a head injury to the driver during a roll over.

What diameter, wall thickness, type and material are the tubes?

I don't know further details of the construction.
I know he tried to make a legal cage, but since he so far has only participated in trackdays, I don't know if the cage does in fact pass tech inspection.

I recommend Auto Power, they make quality cages and give the option of just the main hoop or a full cage also if you want a bolt in cage they are pretty much your only option. I have one in my ITC car.

Its not bad getting in and out of but it does take up a bit of space, you cant really put a passenger seat in the car anymore and as you can see the dash wont be coming out any time soon.

the body kits from italy are hell not easy at all to install ,and i had to cut all the front end so now i must reinforce the frame

Important Question!

Just how big are you? I know this sounds funny but it will make a world of difference in how you design a cage.

For example, I am 6'4" and about 250. Having the rear hoop behind me, just under the targa bar like many pre manufacture items does not work. Instead, I had the hoop made behind the rear bulkhead and higher, so I could move the seat all the way back but still be protected in the cage.

Now, if you are lucky, and are under 5' 10", then having a bar inside the car should work just fine.

Hope this helps.

What? A Dallara kit? Can you provide more pics? I'm curious what you chopped away. Your posts tend to be rather cryptic, so it is hard to grasp exactly what is going on...
