Is Brown Wire Mod for Bertones?

Is the brown wire mod just for Fiat X1/9's or are they for Bertone's too?

Just wondering because I think I read when Bertone took over production one thing they did was upgrade the wiring for all the Bertones.

They changed the fusebox

to the more modern AT style of fuses, but other than that the wiring is not substantially different. Yes, the later Bertone's do benefit from this modification.

Essentially ...

The brown wire mod is an electrical modification that does two things:

Increases the gauge of the ground wire from the battery to the body in the front trunk; and

Runs a second, heavy gauge, brown wire from the positive side of the battery to the fuse box. That second wire parallels the primary one that's there, thus providing a more robust positive electrical path to the car's electrics.

Others will provide a more detailed description and there are numerous threads detailing the how and why of installing the brown wire mod.

Fiat vs Bertone

Hi,

I have both, a 1980 Fiat and a 1987 Bertone and they both required the Brown wire mod. When it was done, it solved the starting problem. Go ahead.
